Cleveland County Health Department began developing a “healthy living block” in early 2019. The healthy living block would occupy a space in downtown Norman, Oklahoma, and would include a farmers market, yoga studio, walking trails, indoor and outdoor recreational areas, and healthy food and drink options. Though it all sounds very positive, the health department saw several concerns they needed to address along the way. They partnered with Ghost and our friends at Anglin PR to help get everything just right.

We did our research, surveyed stakeholders and found that the healthy living block needed to steer clear of sounding “too municipal” like a government program or social service, and “too Norman” like it wouldn’t be accessible and valuable to the other taxpayers in the surrounding cities within Cleveland County. We slightly modified the official name of the project to “Cleveland County Wellness Square” specifically so we could shorthand it as “The Well,” which brings forth connotations of health and sustenance, community, and a traditional anchor point in a community where both rural and urban constituents to gather and provide for their families.
